(for photos of previous events click here) Briefing Sheet 1: Event OverviewBriefing Sheet 2: Event RulesAmmunition Briefing Sheet 3: Dress Code & Weapon RequirementsOverview Briefing Sheet 1: Event OverviewFor those players who have attended the Vietnam theme days at WWZ, the general organisation and gameplay of the day will be much the same as the WWZ format. A big thank you to Nick (Sideshow) from WWZ for giving us permission to use his original idea as the basis for this event. The event will run from the evening of Friday 8 th to the afternoon of Sunday 10th of August. The cost will be £25 per player and includes: play for the entire event, camping on the site for Friday and Saturday night and a Vietnam themed Saturday 'social' evening. For a little more realism the event will run longer than last year with non-stop play all day and we hope to capture a little of the atmosphere of off duty Vietnam with the Saturday night 'social' and food.
The above schedule is for guidance only and is subject to change without prior notice. General OrganisationTo make the day more authentic players are expected to conform to the appropriate dress and weapon requirements. Players who turn up inappropriately dressed may not be allowed to play (see Dress Code & Weapon Requirements for details). The game will run throughout the weekend with sub-missions appearing within the game at appropriate times with no stop for lunch. Both teams will have a hot meal back in the PX (safe zone) during the Vietnam themed 'social' evening on the Saturday night. Also around the PX there will be period vehicles and AFVN radio playing throughout the whole event to add to the period atmosphere. For safety reasons no weapons fire or combat of any kind will be allowed on the site during the social evening. Due to the nature of the event, players and visitors to the site will not be allowed to turn up to any part of the event without arranging this in advance with Combat South. Any allowed visitor should also wear appropriate period style clothing where possible. Briefing Sheet 2: Event RulesAmmunitionTo keep a 'realistic' amount of ammunition usage in the field, players will only be able to carry a maximum of 600 rounds in magazines (hicap or lowcap) in the field. No filler bottles/containers should be used by troops whilst away from their base camp. However, 1200 rounds are allowed for an M60 or similar support weapon, along with a further 600 rounds for each extra support weapon bandolier carried. This allowance for support weapons cannot be shared to other weapons. The player ammunition allowance does not include pistol and M203 type grenades (moscart) ammunition. When players need to replenish their ammunition it can only be done at selected base camps/resupply points. This can be done at any time, or when a player is respawning. Only approved pyrotechnics may be used onsite, if you are unsure please ask a member of CS staff. Hand to hand or bayonet combat of any kind is not allowed during the day. However, a 'tap on the shoulder kill' is allowed to represent a stealthy knife attack. CommunicationsUS forces may use a radio network with one radio allowed per unit in the field, however NVA/VC forces may not use radios and must rely upon runners and whistles to communicate. Once KIA, players must not communicate to each other except to point out they are dead/out of the game. Tactical communication by dead players is unrealistic and above all, unfair. Dead men tell no tales. Medic RulesEach side will have a number of allocated player 'medics' - these can fight and be hit/killed in exactly the same way as normal players. Once a player (including a medic) is hit, a 5 minutes 'bleed out' time will start. Players must fall, but are able to move a little if required or are in the way. During the bleed out time players may call for a medic (or 'bacsi' in the case of NVA/VC). If a medic can safely attend to the wounded player within the 5 minutes, the medic must place both hands on the wounded player above the waist constantly for 2 minutes. If a player is wearing period body armour the heal time is reduced to 1 minute. Both the wounded player and medic cannot fire any weapons during the healing process. If a medic does not attend the wounded player within the 5 minutes then the player is considered KIA and must return to their base to respawn. During the 'bleed out' time a wounded player can be moved to safety for medical attention by two or more team members. Players must wait the full 5 minutes of 'bleed out' whether a medic is present or not. Similarly other players cannot attempt to 'speed up' the time the player is out of the game by any method apart from those mentioned here. To save confusion, players will be issued in advance with a white 'sock' to slip over the end of their weapons when they are KIA. Once back at their base the player instantly respawns, removes the 'sock' and can replenish their ammunition. However, before leaving the base camp the player must do a strict 5 minute 'guard duty' and await any orders from the base commander. Capturing PrisonersPlayers from each side can be captured as prisoners either through surrender or when they are hit. There must be a ratio of at least 2 members of the capturing team per prisoner to escort them to the capturing team base and to guard them while there. When at the base prisoners must slip the white 'sock' over their weapons and wait for 10 minutes. Once the time is up they must make their way back to their own base camp to respawn-just as if they were KIA. Prisoners returning cannot return to play until they have respawned from their base. Capturing a downed pilot/aircrew may reveal some information - they will supply it willingly once within the capturing teams base. However, pilots/aircrew must stay within the capturing teams base and need to be guarded as they may escape if their guard ratio drops below 2 guards per prisoner. All prisoners, especially pilots/aircrew can be rescued by their own forces and immediately become active if successfully rescued. Weapons held by any type of prisoner are not effective within the capturing forces camp whilst under an effective guard. The MediaUp to 2 'photo journalists' may be attached to either side. They will dress in a period style to blend in with the side they are on. They will take photographs of combat and their side in action. They can be hit, but will self-respawn on the spot after 5 minutes 'bleed out' time. Photo journalists cannot use any weapons offensively, only in self-defence. As a result neither side should deliberately shoot at them. They may not wear hi-vis jackets as this will give away positions and detract from the atmosphere of the day. Photo journalists will pay a reduced fee to cover food costs. Players who wish to act as photo journalists must apply to Steve Banks directly as the numbers are strictly limited. Players cannot just turn up with the intention of taking this role without prior consent. Government AdvisorsThere may be some government advisors in country (usually in loud civilian type clothing such as Hawaiian shirts). They represent the government of whichever side sees them. They are not part of the fighting and should not be shot at, they cannot be killed. Typically they will be CS staff setting up pyrotechnics to make the day more interesting with some bigger bangs. Preparation for the EventPlayers need to be fit enough to cope with a days Airsoft against/with experienced players and 'nam' enthusiasts. For information on combat in Vietnam and Vietnam uniforms and equipment see Dress Code & Weapon Requirements or read some of the excellent books on the subject. If unsure do not go buying 'so called' Vietnam original or repro items until you are sure they are correct or acceptable. Briefing Sheet 3: Dress Code & Weapon RequirementsThe Vietnam themed events at Combat South are intended for 'nam' enthusiasts. The dress code/weapon limitations are essential to make the day feel as authentic as possible. If you do not feel able to conform to these specific requirements please do not ask to attend. Players who turn up inappropriately dressed may not be able to play. For those players who have played the Vietnam days at WWZ, the kit requirements are very similar.
